Four Details That Matter

Garrett Wade Heavy Duty Lopper — close-up of ratcheting head mechanism

Ratcheting Action

Cut in stages. Squeeze, release, squeeze again; the blade advances each time and does not back off. Thick branches yield to ordinary grip strength.

Anvil Head

A straight blade closes onto a flat anvil. Crushing force for dead, dry, and hardened wood up to 2½″.

Bypass Head

Two curved blades pass like scissors. Clean cuts on living branches up to 2″, without crushing the tissue, so the cut heals.

Telescoping Handles

Six locking positions from 26″ to 40″. At full extension you reach canopy branches from the ground.

The Pair

Two Jaws for Two Jobs

The bypass lopper is for living wood: two curved blades pass like scissors and leave a clean cut that heals. The anvil lopper is for dead wood: a straight blade closes onto a flat anvil and crushes through what a bypass blade would only pinch. One tool cannot do both jobs well, which is why this is a pair.

We reach for the bypass when shaping a rose or thinning an apple tree, and for the anvil after a storm, when everything on the ground is dry and brittle. Between the two, and with forty inches of handle, there is not much in a yard you cannot bring down from where you stand.

Common Questions

Before You Buy

The bypass handles green branches up to 2″; the anvil cuts dead or dry wood up to 2½″. Past that, make a second pass or reach for a saw.

Instead of one powerful squeeze, you cut in stages: squeeze, release, squeeze again, and the blade advances each time without backing off. It asks less of each squeeze, not less time per branch.

26″ to 40″ across six locking positions. At full extension you can reach canopy branches from the ground.

Yes. Sharpen with a fine diamond file or stone, keeping the factory bevel and working only the beveled side. A few passes once or twice a season keeps them cutting.

Fun to use! Easy on the bod!!

"This is my second review…. AWESOME!! I have tennis elbow, arthritis in my hands and carpel tunnel- just did two cart loads of dead wood! No pain! Took me a minute to figure out the anvil loper, but can’t wait to do more!"

Quality Product

"Very impressed with both sets of loppers. Especially like the extendable handles. Only issue I had was the packing. Box lid was only taped on one side. the other side was wide open. I was lucky that I did not lose the replacement blades."

Stephen E. (5/5)

Wow! Amazing tools!

"They are a bit heavy, but what a great, easy job they make of pruning! The ratchet feature gives the perfect boost when needed. I love the extending handles. Don’t have to get out the ladder."

These are great loppers

"The loppers are Heavy Duty and work really well. If you get a tougher branch the watching mechanism helps get through the cut. Also the extendable handles allow you a higher mechanical lever to REALLY put the hurt on a stubborn branch. I do recommend these loppers."

ROB M. (5/5)

Q&A

The loppers arrived in Reno about 5-8 and they couldn't get them in the package boxes. They returned them to the main PO and gave us a track number to retrieve them. We checked at the PO about the 11th and they couldn't find them. They said they would have a supervisor check and call. It's the 19th and no calls. The retrieval slip says they will return them to shipper on the 23rd. They won't answer the phone so I can't contact them and we live out of town. If they return them to you, can you ship another carrier so they will arrive at the house? We want and need them ASAP and typical government BS has thrown a wrench in the works. Let us know.
Mark, please call us on 1800 221 2942 if they dont show up and we will sort it out. Thank you.
How much do these weigh? Length? Thinking about taking to Peru.
Jeanne, Both are made for us in Taiwan. The bypass lopper weighs 3.75# and the anvil lopper weighs 4.5#
Can you buy the gear that makes them ratchet
Tammy, There are two gears, 1 is part of the blade and the other is in the movable handle. We have the gear and will send to you if you will give us your order information (Name that is was ordered under and Phone number).
I have a pair of your very best loppers . A friend cut a 2 " branch off and they seemed to have jumped a cog so I took them apart and saw nothing broken but I did not try and slip the orange sleeve off the handle. It seemed to be struck and I didn't want to force it. I was wondering if it is glued on or just stuck. Also I sure would like to see a video on how to put it back together. Do you have a phone number I can call if need be. They sure worked good before my friend did them in. I just don't have the heart to tell him that I might have to give up on them. Thanks, Barry T. Bonar from Iowa
Barry, Will need to talk to you in order to help. I have emailed my contact information. Please contact per my email.
